This is the book that started it all, the novel that defined the ''Lost World'' genre and set the standard for every treasure-hunting adventure that followed. It is a story of pure, unadulterated thrill, and it still has the power to sweep you away.

The story is narrated by Allan Quatermain, a professional hunter in Africa. He is a man of practical good sense, a realist who tells his story with a wry, understated humor.
