The World of Nagaraj is a beautifully written, funny, and haunting novel from R.K. Narayan's magnificent Malgudi series. Nagaraj lives a quiet, comfortable life with his wife Sita – writing letters, drinking coffee, doing leisurely book-keeping, and planning a book about the sage Narada. But when his ambitious brother's son Tim comes to live with him, Nagaraj's peaceful world is disturbed by complications, late-night secrets, and the strong smell of spirits. As the Times Literary Supplement noted: ''Narayan's genius lies in persuading us that the lives and characters of Malgudi represent substantial human nature.'' A magical world into which the reader is instantly drawn.
