For engineering students across the Indian subcontinent, H.K. Dass's ''Advanced Engineering Mathematics'' has been a trusted companion for decades. This hefty volume aims to be a one-stop reference for all the mathematical tools an engineer might need throughout their undergraduate studies.

The book's greatest strength is its comprehensive coverage. It spans the entire engineering mathematics curriculum, from foundational calculus to more advanced topics like complex analysis, Laplace transforms, Fourier series, and numerical methods. Each chapter is structured in a traditional textbook format: a brief introduction to the theory, followed by numerous solved examples that demonstrate the application of concepts, and concluding with a generous set of practice problems.

The sheer number of solved examples is impressive. Students who learn by working through examples will find this book invaluable. The problems are graded in difficulty, allowing students to build confidence gradually before tackling more challenging questions. The inclusion of previous examination questions is particularly helpful for students preparing for university exams.

However, the book is not without its limitations. The theoretical explanations can sometimes be brief, assuming that students are simultaneously learning the concepts in lectures.
