Robin Stevens has done it again! ''Arsenic For Tea,'' the second book in the ''Murder Most Unladylike'' series, is an absolutely delightful and thrilling read that surpasses even the high bar set by its predecessor. It's a perfect blend of Agatha Christie-style intrigue, period charm, and the irresistible appeal of two brilliant young detectives. This time, the action moves from the boarding school of Deepdean to the atmospheric country house of Fallingford, Daisy's family home. The setting is perfect for a classic English murder mystery: a grand house, a glamorous (if slightly dysfunctional) family gathering, and a storm that cuts everyone off from the outside world. When a guest is poisoned at Daisy's birthday tea party, the scene is set for a wonderfully tense and exciting puzzle. The strength of the series lies in its two heroines. Daisy is the confident, dramatic, and sharp-witted leader, while Hazel, the narrator, is thoughtful, observant, and increasingly brave. Their friendship is the heart of the book, and their dynamic is as engaging as the mystery itself. As they interview suspects and piece together clues, we get to know the eccentric family members, each with their own secrets and motives. Stevens writes with wit and a perfect ear for the period, creating an atmosphere that feels both authentic and utterly immersive. The plot is cleverly constructed, with plenty of red herrings and genuine surprises. It's a ''ripping good fun'' read, as The Times put it, that will keep young readers (and adults!) guessing until the very end.
