Book Review:
''Drama Queen'' delivers a fantastic twist in the Dork Diaries series! The unthinkable has happened: Nikki Maxwell's diary has been stolen by her arch-nemesis, the queen of mean, MacKenzie Hollister. Nikki is in a panic, imagining all her deepest, most embarrassing secrets being broadcast to the entire school.
But the story takes a hilarious turn. The narrative flips, and for a large part of the book, we get to read MacKenzie's version of events. We see inside the mind of the so-called ''queen bee,'' and it's both eye-opening and surprisingly funny. What does MacKenzie really think about Nikki and her friends? Is her life as glamfabalous as she pretends? This shift in perspective adds a whole new layer to the series.
Rachel Renee Russell's signature humor and doodle-style illustrations are in full force. Seeing the same events from two very different viewpoints is clever and entertaining. It's a story about perception, rivalry, and the idea that everyone has their own story. A must-read for any Dork Diaries fan, offering a fresh and hilarious take on the classic good vs. mean girl dynamic. Highly recommended for ages 8-12.
