The most compelling aspect is the ''hero turned villain'' storyline for Ella (Juliette), which provides intense drama and puts Warner's love and determination to the ultimate test. The final battles are large in scale, and long-standing character arcs, especially Kenji's, receive satisfying attention and closure. Mafi's prose remains passionate and visceral. However, some readers felt the pacing in the final act was extremely fast, with major conflicts resolved quickly after such a long build-up. The focus is squarely on the core relationships and the thematic triumph of love and self over oppression and programming.
