Book Review:
READER BEWARE... YOU CHOOSE THE SCARE!
R.L. Stine's ''It Came from the Internet'' is another fantastic, spine-tingling entry in the ''Give Yourself Goosebumps'' series, where YOU are the star of the story and YOUR choices determine how terrifying the adventure gets! And this time, the horror is coming right out of your computer screen!
A creepy message flashes on your screen, warning you of a virus. But this is no ordinary virus. A living, breathing web crawler with razor-sharp fangs crawls out of your computer and bites you! Now you're infected with a computer virus that's slowly erasing your memory. You have to find a cure before you forget who you are and what's happening to you. But where do you start? Do you trust a mad scientist of a doctor who wants you to eat computer chips for dinner? Or do you team up with a mysterious hacker who can take you on a virtual reality trip to the terrifying Coffin City? Every choice leads you down a new, weirder, and scarier path.
This book is a blast from start to finish. The ''choose your own adventure'' format is executed perfectly, with over 20 different possible endings. The sheer number of possibilities makes this book incredibly re-readable, as kids will want to go back and make different choices to uncover all the spooky and often hilarious endings. The late-90s/early-2000s tech-horror theme is delightfully retro and fun.
Stine's writing is, as always, perfectly pitched for middle-grade readers. It's funny, fast-paced, and just the right amount of scary. The short chapters and interactive nature make it a perfect choice for reluctant readers.
The Verdict: If you're a fan of Goosebumps or love interactive adventures with a tech-horror twist, ''It Came from the Internet'' is a must-read. It's a fun, spooky, and highly engaging book that puts you in control of the scares. Highly recommended for readers aged 8-12. Just remember... reader beware, you choose the scare!
