What if the earth was not a solid ball of rock and metal, but a hollow sphere, filled with mysterious caverns, prehistoric monsters, and vast underground oceans? They are threatened by starvation, by separation, and by a terrifying electric storm on the underground sea.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth is a novel of relentless invention. Verne had a genius for making the fantastic seem real, for grounding his wildest imaginings in scientific detail. The reader feels the chill of the underground caverns, hears the lapping of the waves on the underground sea, and shares the explorers' awe and terror at the wonders they encounter.
