Maudie is an anonymous Victorian erotic novel, reprinted here by Wordsworth Editions in their “Classic Erotica” series. Set on and around London’s River Thames, Maudie provides “all manner of erotic entertainment” for her circle of friends. The bibliographer Laurence Foster suggested that the author was a well-known literary man and the characters drawn from life. The plot culminates in a race to deflower the daughter of a French guest — until the participants are caught in flagrante delicto by a photographer from The Daily Mirror. Forced to flee the country, Maudie’s adventures continue in the sequel Pleasure Bound. The book is described as “highly-charged and very funny.” This is an unexpurgated (complete) edition.
