Review:
Talkative Man introduces a character not unlike Narayan himself – a compulsively engaging raconteur known as ''Talkative Man'' (TM). As a young journalist, TM shares the story of mysterious Dr. Rann and his effect on the people of Malgudi. Dr. Rann arrives in town claiming to research a UN project, seduces a young girl, and is pursued by his erratic wife from Delhi. In the novel's hilarious and touching denouement, TM realizes that he, Dr. Rann, and his wife are all engaged in creating fictions about themselves. Described by V.S. Naipaul as capturing ''small men, small schemes, big talk, and limited means.'' A charming addition to Narayan's Malgudi series.
