Book Review:
Earth magic, ghost weddings, passports to the afterlife – the spirit world of the Chinese exists side-by-side with everyday reality and affects every aspect of Chinese life from diet and decor to getting married or opening a business. Frena Bloomfield has lived and worked in Hong Kong and has talked in depth to many practitioners of the magic arts. This fascinating introduction to a rich culture reveals how the dead are ever-present and even the siting of a house or village is governed by the laws of earth magic. An accessible and engaging read for anyone interested in Chinese culture, folk religion, and the paranormal. Non-fiction.
