Book Review:
''The Horse and His Boy'' is a thrilling and often-underrated installment in The Chronicles of Narnia. While the other books focus on children from our world entering Narnia, this story takes place entirely within the Narnian world and offers a rich, Arabian Nights-flavored adventure. It's a tale of escape, destiny, and the discovery of one's true identity.

The story follows Shasta, a boy who has grown up as the son of a poor fisherman in the harsh, southern land of Calormen. He dreams of the mysterious, free North. One day, he discovers that his father's horse, Bree, can talk. Bree is actually a talking horse from Narnia, captured long ago, and he too longs to return home. They escape together, heading north. Soon, they join forces with another pair of runaways: Aravis, a high-born girl fleeing a forced marriage, and her mare, Hwin, also a talking horse from Narnia.

The journey is perilous. They must cross deserts, navigate dangerous cities, and evade the authorities. Their path becomes even more urgent when they overhear a plot by the arrogant Prince Rabadash of Calormen to invade the peaceful lands of Archenland and Narnia while their kings and queens are away. Shasta and Aravis must race ahead to warn the king, leading to a desperate battle and a final, surprising revelation about Shasta's own past.

C.S. Lewis weaves a fast-paced adventure with memorable characters. Bree is a proud but somewhat vain horse who learns humility. Hwin is gentle and sensible. Aravis is brave and proud, and her dynamic with Shasta is engaging. The world-building is superb, contrasting the harsh, hierarchical society of Calormen with the freedom and beauty of Narnia and Archenland.

The book explores themes of identity, destiny, and providence. Shasta's journey is not just a physical one; it's a journey to discover who he really is. The role of Aslan is subtle but powerful, guiding the characters in ways they don't always understand.

While this book has less of the ''portal fantasy'' magic of the first two, it is a wonderful adventure story in its own right. It expands the world of Narnia and offers a fresh perspective on its history and geography. Highly recommended for fans of the series and anyone who loves a good quest story.
