The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband is a delightful, witty, and emotional historical romance from Julia Quinn, set in the world of the Bridgertons (but a generation earlier). With her brother Thomas injured on the battlefield in the American Colonies, orphaned Cecilia Harcourt has two unbearable choices: move in with a maiden aunt or marry a scheming cousin. Instead, she chooses option three – sailing across the Atlantic to nurse her brother back to health. But after weeks of searching, she finds not her brother but his best friend, the handsome officer Edward Rokesby. He's unconscious and in desperate need of care. Cecilia vows to save his life, even if staying by his side means telling one little lie: ''I tell everyone I was your wife.'' When Edward wakes up, he's confused – a blow to his head has knocked out six months of his memory. But with everyone calling her his wife, he decides it must be true. This book is funny, steamy, and surprisingly moving. A must-read for Bridgerton fans and anyone who loves a good historical romance with a twist.
