Book Review:
''The Last Straw'' is another brilliantly funny installment in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. This time, Greg Heffley's main problem is his dad. With the new year beginning, Greg is supposed to make resolutions to improve himself, but he thinks he's pretty great already. His dad, however, disagrees. He's worried that Greg is too wimpy and decides it's time for some serious ''manly'' intervention.
Jeff Kinney perfectly captures the classic father-son dynamic where Dad wants his son to be tough and sporty, and Greg just wants to be left alone. The pressure mounts as his dad tries to get him involved in everything from soccer to Boy Scouts, all with disastrous and hilarious results. The ultimate threat? Military academy. Greg must find a way to change his dad's mind before he gets shipped off.
The humor is sharp and relatable, especially for anyone who has ever felt the pressure to conform to expectations. Kinney's cartoon-style illustrations are as expressive and funny as ever, perfectly capturing Greg's misery and his dad's determination. The story also touches on themes of self-acceptance and the different ways families show love.
This is a fantastic addition to the series, full of laugh-out-loud moments and genuine heart. It's a must-read for Wimpy Kid fans and anyone who enjoys a good, funny story about family and growing up. Highly recommended for ages 8-12.
