Book Review:
The Women's Murder Club returns in ''2nd Degree,'' the second installment in James Patterson and Andrew Gross's popular series. Detective Lindsay Boxer, medical examiner Claire Washburn, assistant DA Jill Bernhardt, and reporter Cindy Thomas are back, this time investigating a series of murders that seem to be connected to a powerful and secretive organization. When a wealthy businessman's home is firebombed, killing three people, the club's investigation uncovers a conspiracy that reaches to the highest levels of power.

The chemistry between the four friends remains the series' greatest strength. Their loyalty to one another and their determination to see justice done are heartwarming. The plot is fast-paced and filled with the short, punchy chapters Patterson is known for. The addition of a personal threat to one of the club members raises the stakes considerably. ''2nd Degree'' is a worthy successor to ''1st to Die'' and will leave fans eager for the next installment.
