Book Review:
Louise Bagshawe's ''A Kept Woman'' is a classic tale of a woman who has it all, loses it all, and must rebuild her life from scratch. Diana has used her beauty and class to marry publishing mogul Ernie Foxton. She lives a life of luxury in a stunning New York apartment, with a designer wardrobe and personal staff at her beck and call. But when her world unexpectedly crumbles, she finds herself homeless, husbandless, and nearly penniless. For the first time in her life, she must learn to take care of herself.
Bagshawe's writing is engaging and readable. Diana is initially portrayed as somewhat naive and spoiled, but her journey toward independence and self-reliance is satisfying to watch. The novel is filled with glamorous settings, cattiness, and romantic entanglements. While the plot follows a familiar trajectory, it's an enjoyable and escapist read. Fans of Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper will find much to like here. It's a perfect choice for a light, entertaining beach read.
