This issue stands out for its pre-modern historical setting, offering a refreshing change from the usual World War II or contemporary battlefields.

The plot is built on a compelling mythical object—the Battle Shield—which serves as a powerful symbol of tribal unity and divine favour. The loss of the shield to Roman forces creates a classic underdog story, focusing on Forlan, a young man burdened by his brother's failure. His journey from outcast to potential saviour is engaging and follows a satisfying arc.

The black-and-white artwork effectively depicts the ancient setting, from the design of the shield and armour to the chaos of hand-to-hand combat. The storytelling is brisk and focused, delivering a complete adventure in a single sitting.
