The Sequel to Communion: Does It Provide the Proof?
Whitley Strieber's ''Communion'' was a landmark book in the field of UFOlogy, a terrifying and deeply personal account of an apparent alien abduction that resonated with millions of readers. But it was also met with widespread skepticism. In ''Confirmation: The Hard Evidence,'' Strieber attempts to silence his critics and provide the physical proof that his experiences were real.
The book is a fascinating and often frustrating read. Strieber begins by reviewing the overwhelming evidence for the UFO phenomenon itself: the countless sightings, the radar data, the pilot testimony, the mass events like the 1997 Phoenix Lights and, most notably, the mass sightings over Mexico City that were captured on video by countless witnesses. He argues, convincingly, that something is happening, and that the government and mainstream science have failed to take it seriously.
The heart of the book, however, is the presentation of the ''hard evidence'': five implants that were surgically removed from individuals who claim to have had contact with aliens. These removals were conducted under controlled conditions, with doctors and witnesses present. Strieber describes the scientific analysis of these objects, which have been found to contain unusual isotopic ratios and other anomalies. He argues that they are not of earthly origin.
The book also includes a remarkable and unexpected appendix: a statement from Monsignor Corrado Balducci, a high-ranking official of the Vatican, who discusses the Catholic Church's perspective on alien contact. Balducci's willingness to engage with the subject adds a fascinating layer of credibility.
''Confirmation'' is not a book that will convince hardcore skeptics. The ''implants'' remain controversial, and Strieber's interpretations are open to debate. But for anyone open to the possibility that we are not alone, and for anyone who was captivated by ''Communion,'' this book is a must-read. It is a courageous and deeply personal attempt to make sense of one of the most profound mysteries of our time. It is a journey of scientific discovery and personal struggle, and it will leave you thinking long after you've turned the final page.
