Book Review :
Terrance Dicks's novelization of Doctor Who and the Genesis of the Daleks is a classic and essential story for any fan of the series. It presents the origin story of the Doctor's most iconic and terrifying enemies: the Daleks. The Time Lords send the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan to the planet Skaro, which is locked in a thousand-year war between the Kaleds and the Thals. There, they encounter the Kaled scientist Davros, a genius whose vision for his race's future is horrifying. He has created a mobile, armored travel machine designed to house the final, mutated form of the Kaled race, creating a creature whose only purpose is to become the supreme being—the Dalek. The Doctor is given a terrible choice: he can destroy the Dalek project at its very beginning, but to do so would mean committing genocide. The story is a dark and morally complex exploration of creation, responsibility, and the nature of evil. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest Doctor Who stories ever told, and Dicks's novelization captures all its tension and power.
