Book Review:
In ''Redemption,'' David Baldacci brings back Amos Decker, the Memory Man with a perfect recall, for his most personal case yet. Meryl Hawkins, the first murderer Decker ever arrested, is released from prison after years behind bars. He visits Decker to proclaim his innocence, and when Hawkins is found dead shortly after, Decker is compelled to reinvestigate the old case, uncovering a web of corruption that reaches deep into the police department.
This is Baldacci at his best. Decker is a fascinating protagonist, and his unique ability adds an interesting dimension to the investigation. The plot is intricately constructed, with layers of secrets slowly revealed. The themes of redemption, justice, and the fallibility of memory are explored with depth and nuance. The supporting cast, including Decker's FBI partners Alex Jamison and the mysterious Meryl Hawkins, are well-developed. ''Redemption'' is a tense, suspenseful, and emotionally resonant thriller that ranks among the best in the series.
