Book Review:
This is the biography of Noor Inayat Khan, a truly extraordinary and heroic woman. The descendant of Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore, Noor was born in Moscow and raised in France and Britain in the Sufi style of Islam. When World War II broke out, she joined the Red Cross and later was recruited by the Special Operations Executive (SOE), the British secret service. She became the first female wireless operator to be flown into occupied France and was the only Asian secret agent in Europe during WWII. Working under the code name ''Madeleine,'' she transmitted crucial messages to London. After her colleagues were arrested, she refused to abandon her post, becoming the last radio operator left in Paris. Betrayed and arrested, she was interrogated and tortured by the Gestapo but revealed nothing—not even her real name. She was shot at Dachau concentration camp on September 13, 1944. She was posthumously awarded the George Cross and the Croix de Guerre.
