Book Review:
''The Red Sea Sharks'' is the nineteenth adventure in the Tintin series, first published in 1956. This book stands out as one of Hergé's most politically charged and socially conscious stories.
The adventure begins when Tintin and Captain Haddock encounter a plane crash in the desert. They soon uncover a modern slave trade operation, with a mysterious Emir selling his subjects to wealthy buyers. Their old nemesis Rastapopoulos returns, now disguised as a respectable shipping magnate named Marquis di Gorgonzola – but he is secretly the mastermind behind the slave trade.
What follows is a thrilling chase across the Red Sea, featuring jet fighters, sinking ships, and a dramatic confrontation. The book directly addresses the real-world issue of slavery in the Middle East, which was still practiced in some regions during the 1950s. Hergé's artwork is excellent, especially the underwater scenes and the detailed ships. This is a fast-paced, action-packed adventure with a powerful message.
