Book Review:
''The Black Island'' is the seventh adventure in the Tintin series, first published in 1937. The story begins when Tintin discovers a plane crash caused by a gang of counterfeiters. His investigation takes him from Belgium to the rugged coast of Scotland, where he must unravel the mystery of the eerie Black Island – a place rumored to be haunted by a terrifying beast.
What makes this book memorable is its atmospheric setting. The foggy Scottish landscape, crumbling castle ruins, and the mysterious gorilla create a gothic, almost horror-like mood unusual for Tintin. The chase sequences are thrilling, especially the iconic scene where Tintin and Snowy escape in a small plane. Hergé's artwork shines in the detailed Scottish scenery. This adventure also marks a step forward in Hergé's storytelling, with tighter plotting and more believable characters. A solid, entertaining entry in the Tintin canon.
